History of Chhath Puja
Chhath Puja is an ancient and mysterious Hindu Vedic festival, which this year is held on Thursday October 26th. The Sun God, Surya, the god of energy and of the life-force, is worshiped during the Chhath Puja to promote well-being, prosperity and progress.
This festival is observed by many Nepalese and Indian people, and it is said that the rituals of Chhatth Puja may even date back to the ancient era, as it is mentioned in the ancient Vedas and in the Sanskrit Epic poem of Mahabharata.
The yogic or scientific history of Chhath Puja is even more fascinating, with the Rishis of many years ago being said to have remained alive for long periods without any external intake of food by obtaining energy from the sunlight. It is believed that this feat was made possible through the rituals of the Chhath Puja.
